Less Stress Weed Control in Corn

When it comes to controlling tough weeds in corn, there can be a lot of stress — especially when weather causes delays or when scouting cornfields for postplanting weed pressure takes a back seat to the first pass of soybean weed control.

Kyle Orlet, a sales associate at Brase Farms near Edwardsville, Illinois, has a drive to exceed customer expectations and stay ahead of the competition. That drive is evident in how he brings full acre solutions to his growers. Orlet not only helps choose the right seed and crop protection solutions for customers’ acres but also handles all farm and custom chemical applications and supports the onboarding of technology needs for growers who do their own application.

Having tools that help achieve these goals, pushes him to reach for the latest solutions. Orlet knows he wants products that work well and reduce the stresses that come with helping farmers overcome their cropping challenges.

Powerful control delivers peace of mind

With Resicore® REV corn herbicide, Orlet has found a multitool of sorts for handling tough weeds in corn. Waterhemp, giant ragweed and large-seeded broadleaves like morningglory and cocklebur are the top challenges for growers in his area.

He also gives Resicore REV herbicide a thumbs-up for the level of control it provides.

“Where we used it in 2024, there were a few fields with a little bit of morningglory and a few cocklebur, but nothing at a level we’d need to spray again,” Orlet says. “Overall, especially in really bad areas where we have problems with weeds every year, Resicore REV did a really good job.”

Resicore REV herbicide has three strong, proven modes of action in clopyralid, mesotrione and acetochlor for powerful control of more than 75 tough broadleaf and grass weeds, including resistant weeds like Palmer amaranth, waterhemp and marestail. Plus, Resicore REV herbicide has residual up to eight weeks for cleaner fields longer.

One-pass application plus 8-week residual helps make the most of limited time, resources

This long-lasting residual and the peace of mind it provides are more reasons Orlet turns to Resicore REV herbicide.

“Especially on bottom ground, where cocklebur tend to pop up, Resicore REV has worked better than other products we’ve used, and having up to eight weeks of residual control is huge for us,” Orlet says. “Because we’re in the seed business, a lot of times we’re way too busy to start scouting cornfields until all of the beans have been treated.

“Having that window of safety and knowing that those fields are clean helps take some of the pressure off.”

Tank-mix compatibility and wide application window fit many cropping programs

Resicore REV herbicide has the flexibility to be used as a preplant, pre- or postemergence herbicide on corn up to 24 inches in height. As a result, Resicore REV herbicide can fit a wide variety of weed control and agronomic programs (conventional, reduced and no-till).

It allows the opportunity to customize weed control programs with compatible products like atrazine, glyphosate and other key corn herbicides. Plus, Resicore REV herbicide features greater tank-mix compatibility with nutrients, including UAN and ammonium thiosulfate (ATS) and other crop protection products like some insecticides and fungicides.

Although he prefers to apply broadleaf weed control immediately after planting, rain in 2024 meant waiting until corn reached V4 or V5. The application flexibility and extended application window are other key aspects of Resicore REV herbicide that Orlet appreciates.

“If we can’t get there to spray or if it’s too wet to spray as soon as we are done planting, we can spray over the top of the corn and not really have crop injury,” he says. “Being able to apply other crop protection products plus Resicore REV on corn up to 24 inches tall is also nice. It minimizes passes through the field and keeps the phone from ringing with growers asking questions about crop injury.”
